This Tuesday, April 21st, I am hosting a coronavirus telephone town hall for seniors in California’s 15th Congressional District with special guests Cate Kortzeborn, regional administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) San Francisco Office and Lara Calvert, Director of Spectrum Community Services.
Each day, we learn more about coronavirus and the spread of COVID-19. Based on currently available information and clinical expertise, seniors and those who live in nursing homes or long-term care facilities are at higher risk for contracting COVID-19. That’s why next week, we’ll take time to discuss how to keep you and your loved ones safe, the extra precautions you should be taking, the new resources available to older Americans through the CARES Act, and what I am doing to protect seniors in CA-15. We’ll also talk about social security, Medicaid, and the experts and I will take any questions you have live.
In her role as regional administrator, Cate Kortzeborn is the principal official for CMS regional operations and directs a media relations and outreach plan to promote CMS programs to the diverse populations across the region. CMS-SF spans a vast geographic area (including California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, and three Pacific Territories), has one of the most culturally diverse populations in the nation, and serves more than 16 million Medicare, Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program, and Health Insurance Marketplace beneficiaries and consumers.
Lara Calvert is the executive Director of Spectrum Community Services and an advocate for human empowerment. She spends her time on issues and projects that help others live life to their fullest. Ms. Calvert is a native Californian and a product of our public schools. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in Sociology from California State University, Chico. She has served on many political and educational organizations. Including a lengthy tenure with the Fremont Education Foundation, where she ensured that all 4th-6th graders had access to learn a band instrument. In 2013, Lara brought her passion to Spectrum Community Services, where the health & safety of older adults and families are the focus.
