Bay Area Health Officers Move to Implement the State’s New Regional Stay Home Order, Not Waiting Until Local Hospitals Are Near Crisis to Act

Yesterday, Governor Newsom announced that all sectors other than retail and essential operations would be closed in regions of the State where less than 15 percent of ICU beds are available under a new Regional Stay Home Order. Although health officials throughout the Bay Area are glad to see the State take action in light of the rapidly escalating surge in hospitalizations statewide.

Statement on State’s Regional Stay-At-Home Order

The State announced today that they will use regional availability of intensive care unit (ICU) beds to implement a Regional Stay-At-Home Order. The State’s Order would go into effect when a region’s ICU availability falls below 15 percent and would remain in effect for a minimum of three weeks.
